Update: I know it's been a while since you've heard from me. I've been in the grips of all the ups and downs of a start-up company. Things can get complex when you work in a team enviroment.

Also my book project is still underway. There seems to be a lot of buzz generated by this so far. We're shooting for a completion date by this summer. More details to follow.

Let's talk about one of the biggest crimes that can rob you of any success in today's...

Quick Cure for Procrastination?

Dear Associate,

I wrote a one-page introductory letter to break into the hospice industry. The letter was in a story format—unlike the majority of these kinds of letters floating around. The outcome I wanted was to pique enough interest for the receiving party to call.

Before I sent it out I asked my colleague Anna to review it. I trust her feedback and it also gives me a second pair of eyes. I'm glad I did.

She let me know there was a weak transition. She was right. Because I wanted to keep my message to a single page, it was a challenge to squeeze everything I wanted to say on it.

I'm guilty of breaking an important copywriting rule: to take as long as you need to say all that you want to say.

So all I had to do was finish up the new letter.

That was over two weeks ago. Yes it was in my consciousness... in my things-to-do list... but as of this writing I still haven't touch that letter.

What happened?

It's called procrastination. Plain and simple. I can give you a bunch of valid excuses, but that won't fly because I have zero results to show for it. And without results, there's no business being generated.

What's the quickest cure for procrastination?

Setting a deadline. Each time my associate sets a deadline for me, my projects get completed. It's a great feeling not to have anything hanging over me. And I don't feel guilty anymore.

If you impose deadlines for yourself—you won't believe the projects you'll complete. You can then focus on other activities or pursuits. You could possibly be the envy of everyone in your sphere of influence.

Warm regards,
