Success
in the U-Zone
Dear
Associate,
2007
has already become another year full of extraordinary opportunities.
The Earth is still rotating, the sky hasn't fallen, and if
you're reading this, you're able to fog a mirror. And if we
have our wits about us, there is not much we cannot accomplish.
If
you didn't meet all your goals last year but want to
this year plan to change course. Because if you can
fog a mirror: then you're not a statue. You have choices.
You don't need anyone's permission or approval to become more
successful. You can do the most amazing things when you shift
to a positive track.
Maybe
you wanted to slim down, become debt-free, or fall in love.
Perhaps you wanted more meaningful work, become a philanthropist,
or leave a legacy. Or maybe it's finding, developing and fostering
true relationships for life. Or all of the above.
Where
do you fit in?
The
world is generally made up of two types of people. The first
are those who operate within their comfort zones. They want
the gold, but complain about the price of the pick and shovel.
They remain in the sidelines watching the next group.
The
second group is willing to take the gold. When they fail,
they are met with, "I told you so," from the first
group. When they succeed, they become heroes and even celebrities.
How
about you?
Are
you taking the necessary steps, prioritizing your goals, or
investing your time and resources to make 2007 your best year
ever? Aside from positive thinking, prayer, and affirmationsthe
rest of your success formula involves action. Actions that
may require you to navigate outside your daily routines and
into the Uncomfort Zone.
This
is where most people become weak in the knees...
They
wish for a better lifestyle, yet continue on the paths of
least resistance. They have so many excuses they could write
a book. They spend their energy feverishly protecting what
they've got rather than facing the unknown. I'm sorry, but
going sideways does not propel you forward.
For
me I was so at ease in my comfort zone I went absolutely nowhere.
I wanted to make something of myself, but was afraid. So I
was safe as long as I did nothing.
It
was after I shifted from living in my comfort zone
to surviving in my uncomfort zone that I made some
personal progress.
I
began changing course. I flooded my mind with fresh thoughts
and ideas from those who were successful. I put those ideas
into action and have never looked back.
When
you have a dream, and you pursue it daily: doors will open
up for you when you're ready.
Where
do you begin?
1)
To break out of comfort zone, you begin by breaking out of
your routines...
Take
in a play, eat at a new restaurant, do something bold and
daring. Greet someone you don't like. Act like a teenager.
Have fun. Make fun of stiff and stodgy people. Disregard the
speed limit. Try Internet dating. Wear colorful clothing.
Become controversial when calling a talk radio program.
By
participating in bold, wild, and exciting activitieswe
have replaced dull, boring, and mundane routines. Our minds
are rescued from brain fog. And we see life with renewed vigor.
2)
Focusing on others, not ourselves...
Pay
attention to others when conversing. Compliment them on their
dress, their choice of music, and their beautiful smile. Guys:
open the door for the ladies. Gals: capture more attention
by becoming classy and stylish. Spoil someone by buying him
a cup of coffee. Or pay for the next driver's toll. Surprise
your neighbors by helping them with their lawn.
I
spoke with a young car rental agent who was considering moving
back to Wisconsin. She said after living where she lived for
the past two years, she still doesn't know any of her neighbors.
What a sad story.
When
you're genuinely paying attention to others firstthey
become attracted to you. They think more highly of you. And
they will usually return the consideration.
3)
Success steps to personal and financial growth...
Invest
in your personal library. Receive new mentors. Purchase their
resources. Hire a coach. Take a home study course. Listen
to teleseminars. Attend a bootcamp. Learn new business skills.
I
began when a friend lent me his tapes. He said, "Listen
to these and get back with me." It was so mind shattering,
I bought the same tapes for myself. It can start with something
as simple as this.
It's
no secret that if you want your income to growyou must
grow. Perhaps that means letting go of bad habits. Maybe that
means stretching to apply new disciplines. The rule is: If
you improveeverything improves for you.
Success
begins when you clear out the cobwebs in your mind. It is
nurtured by what you allow into your mind. And then it rewards
you when you change your course of actions.
Warm
Regards,
